WJK: “Herbert Jarrett Kerr ... received a commission in the Royal Dublin Fusilier Militia and joined the regiment in South Africa [in] 1901. He saw service during the Boer War, receiving the [Queen’s South Africa] Medal and five clasps, [and] returned home with the regiment in 1902. In 1904, he received a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the Prince of Wales’ Leinster Regiment of Foot, [and] served with the 1st Battalion of that regiment in Ireland for six months and afterwards joined the 2nd Battalion in South Africa. He accompanied the regiment to Mauritius and was stationed there one year and six months, from whence they were removed to India in October 1907.” [Was Mauritius where he met Aunt Gwen?]

After Emily Elizabeth Jarrett died in 1912, he inherited under the terms of her will “my estates called Golden Grove, Kent, Silver Grove and the Tilston estate, severally situate in the parish of Trelawny in the Island of Jamaica and all other my hereditaments in the said parish of Trelawny”. She also requested that he “take the name of Jarrett either alone or in addition to the name of Kerr”.

On 10 Nov 1909 when Francis Moncrieff was 23, he married Adela Isabel CLERK, daughter of John Hibgame CLERK & Adela Lamont STEWART. Born in 1885. Adela Isabel died on 31 Dec 1971; she was 86.

In her will, Emily Elizabeth Jarrett left Francis Moncrieff Kerr “my estates called Catherine Hall and Amity Hall in the parish of St James in the Island of Jamaica and all other my hereditaments in the same parish of St James”. She also requested that he “take the name of Jarrett either alone or in addition to the name of Kerr”.

Francis Moncrieff Kerr-Jarrett was knighted for public services on 31 Aug 1965.

(Dugald) Lawrenson married Rosalind WALLACE, daughter of Robert John WALLACE. Born on 20 May 1890. Rosalind died in 1988; she was 97.
